FORMER child actor Aiza Seguerra has resigned as head of the National Youth Commission citing “a very personal reason,” Malacañang said Tuesday.
Seguerra said he met with President Rodrigo Duterte on March 5 and told him about his desire to quit her post.
Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque said the Office of the Executive Secretary had received Seguerra’s letter.
“I met with our dear President last March 5th to tender my resignation as NYC chairperson,” Seguerra said in a Facebook post.
“I coordinated with his office because I wanted to personally tell him my reason. Knowing how social media can exaggerate or twist the truth, I wanted to make sure that he’s going to hear it from me. He was very understanding and supportive of my decision.”
The former Eat Bulaga host was appointed in August 2016 with a term of three years. He campaigned for President Duterte during the 2016 elections.
Among Seguerra’s advocacies are lowering the number of teenage pregnancies and HIV cases among the youth.
He championed programs such as HIV awareness and youth representation in the government through the Sangguniang Kabataan.
He also opposed the postponement of the Sangguniang Kabataan elections.
