At least four people died in a reported measles outbreak in seven Negros Oriental towns, the Integrated Provincial Health Office reported on Monday.
IPHO’s Dr. Leilan Estacion said the fatalities were from the towns of Bacong, Dumaguete, Mabinay, San Jose, Santa Catalina, Siaton and Valencia,
Estacion, however, said they have yet to identify the names of the fatalities.
Measles is an infectious disease that can cause death among infants as young as three months old and are particularly prevalent in areas with colder temperatures.
Symptoms of the disease include skin rashes and fever, health authorities said.
Recently, the Health department also confirmed measles outbreaks in Taguig City and in Davao City.
Health Secretary Francisco Duque said the number of children vaccinated against measles dropped following a public health scare triggered by the scrapped dengue immunization.
