Bulacan is Central Luzon Athletic Association overall champ

SAN FERNANDO — Bulacan captured 92 golds medals to clinch the overall championship of the 2018 Central Luzon Regional Athletic Association meet at the Bulacan Sports Complex in Barangay Sta. Isabel recently.

Aside from the golds culled from victories in baseball, basketball, boxing, dance sport, sepak takraw, softball, swimming, tennis, archery, chess, football, gymnastics, table tennis, billiards and taekwondo, Bulacan also tallied 76 silvers and 55 bronzes for a total haul of 223 medals.

Gov. Wilhelmino Sy-Alvaro of Bulacan said that the region will compete as one team under the “Patriots” banner in the Palarong Pambansa this April in Vigan City.

“Our annual event not only serves as a friendly competition among participants, who will someday become future leaders of our country by developing their bodies and minds through sports,” Sy-Alvaro said.

Placing second in the weeklong long sportsfest was Bataan with 49 gold medals, 47 silver and 49 bronzes, while Olongapo City in Zambales ranked third with a 35 gold-35 silver-39 bronze tally.

On the other hand, Cabanatuan City was awarded as the Most Disciplined delegation, while the Most Organized Delegation was handed to Bataan. Pampanga was named the Greenest and Eco-Friendly delegation.

With the theme “Broadening Youth Horizon through Sports Competition,” the annual sportsfest was participated in by thousands of high school students from the 20 divisions of the region, such as Angeles, San Fernando, and Mabalacat, all in Pampanga; the cities of Malolos, Mecauayan, San Jose Del Monte in Bulacan; Balanga, Bataan; the cities of Cabanatuan, Gapan, Science City of Munoz, San Jose in Nueva Ecija; Tarlac City in Tarlac; Olongapo City in Zambales and Aurora Province.  Romeo Dizon
