Close to 53,000 water service connections have been installed in the distribution network of the west water zone concessionaire, Maynilad Water Services Inc., in 2017.
Over 1.4-million customers benefited from the new connections in the cities of Muntinlupa, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Quezon, Valenzuela and Caloocan as well some parts of Cavite, Maynilad said Monday.
The water concessionaire is currently providing 9.4-million people with safe and potable water, an increase of 54 percent from the 6.1-million customers it served 11 years ago before the water system’s re-privatization in 2007.
At the end of 2017, around 98 percent of Maynilad customers have 24-hour water supply, up from only 32 percent who enjoyed the same service level before 2007.
Moreover, 100 percent of Maynilad customers receive their water at the average pressure of 7 psi (pounds per square inch), enough to bring water up to the second floor of a house.
The company is now aiming to boost water pressure to 16 psi, as it managed to provide this level of water pressure to 70.52 percent of its concession area.
