PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte will not attend the 32nd anniversary of the Edsa People Power Revolution on Feb. 25, People Power Commission member Pastor Saycon said Friday.
This would be the second time that President Duterte would skip the People Power ceremony held every year.
In a television interview, Saycon said the President will be in Mindanao during the Edsa People Power anniversary celebrations to attend to his constituents in Davao city.
Saycon, quoting the President, said, “Wala naman ako diyan [I wasn’t there at the EDSA People Power revolution] and I want to spend it with my people in Davao.”
The Palace, however, said the administration is not minimizing the significance of the peaceful uprising that toppled the late President Ferdinand Marcos.
Saycon said Duterte wants everybody, including his critics, to join this year’s commemorative activities for the EDSA People Power uprising.
He said all are invited to join the Edsa activities.
At the Edsa People Power monument, a prayer vigil organized by an administration critic kept honor guards from rehearsing for the Feb. 25 commemoration.
In his TV interview, Saycon said all “known yellows” have been invited to the commemorative activities, including former President Benigno Aquino III and Vice President Leni Robredo.
