HEALTH Secretary Janette Garin was almost assaulted by angry mothers whose children were allegedly victims of the Dengvaxia vaccines manufactured by French multinational pharmaceutical company Sanofi Pasteurs.
Garin, after attending the congressional hearing by the joint committees on good government and public accountability and on health, was on her way to the elevator at the South Wing Annex of the Batasan Complex when the mothers, wearing black shirts with the sign “Justice for Dengvaxia victims,” yelled at her.
They identified themselves as members of the “United Parents Against Dengvaxia Philippines.”
Garin could have been mobbed but members of the Legislative Security Bureau of the House of Representatives prevented the protesting mothers from getting near her.
House sources said the protesting mothers were brought by Gabriela Party-list Rep. Arlene Brosas.
The mothers were demanding free treatment for their children who were vaccinated with Dengvaxia. They said their children had experienced symptoms such as stomach pain, fever, headache and joint pains.
