i2i New York's newest brand ambassador and Philippines' "Teen King" Daniel Padilla talks about his supporters, Kathryn Bernardo and their new film.

Young actor Daniel Padilla admitted that he and Kathryn Bernardo always want to give their fans something new and fresh. Together, they’ve made a few films and starred in a couple of top-rating series, and all of them were light and sweet —definitely a delight for their legion of fans.

But that is going to change for sure.

In an interview with Manila Standard during the media event where the 22-year-old actor led the unveiling of the DJP Collection for i2i New York, he said that they always consider their fans first whenever they work on a project.

“We have done a lot of projects together. The question is, what else can we give our fans that we haven’t done yet? We’ve done romcom and drama but we haven’t done anything like a mature love story. So, that’s what we are about to do this year. And it’s going to be a film,” Daniel said in vernacular.

The actor was referring to the yet to be titled movie to be helmed by Cathy Garcia Molina, who also directed their film She’s Dating the Gangster (2014).

“We did Barcelona in 2016, it’s a drama, then last year, Can’t Help Falling in Love. The latter was a bit mature but it’s still a romcom. This time we wanted something serious and mature,” he added.

It seems that KathNiel is already headed in that direction since their fans are maturing, too. But when talking about maturity as actors, Daniel explained that there is a change that they are not yet prepared to face, which is being separated as a love team.

“We are going to reach that point, pero tama na ba ang panahon? KathNiel fans are still there and solid. So paano kami maghihiwalay sa maayos na paraan?,” Daniel asked.

He further stated that he wants Kathryn to have a separate identity, not as the other half of KathNiel but as Kathryn Bernardo, the actress.

“That’s what we are trying to do right now, pero sino ang makakasama niya, lalaki ba? Pwede namang hindi, pwede namang Vilma Santos, mag-ina sila, solid acting,” he shared.

As for his solo career, Daniel wants to do a project that would showcase a different side of him. He wants portray a soldier or even a villain.
