THE GlobalPort-Philippine polo team fell short in its first-ever bid to win the All Asia Cup, but team captain and Rep. Mikee Romero (1Pacman Party-List) emerged as the toast of the tournament after winning the MVP award.
The GlobalPort side suffered an 8-6 defeat to the Thais in one of the toughest final matches in years.
“We fought gallantly but the breaks went their (Thais) way,” said Romero.
The event was highlighted by a tribute honoring Romero’s son, Miguel, who passed away last December.
Romero hoisted his son’s jersey in an emotional move before the awarding ceremonies.
Romero’s son was also a member of the national polo team.
The PH team advanced to the final after a stunning win over SEAG bronze medal winner Brunei.
Aside from Romero, other members of the team are Ricardo Garcia, Anthony Garcia and Adrian Garcia.
They made it to the medal round by topping their group elims, beating Indonesia and China.
