FOR a fourth straight term, Surigao del Sur rep. Prospero "Butch" Pichay Jr. will serve as president and chairman of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines.
Pichay got a new mandate after he and 7th District Cavite Rep. Abraham "Bambol" Tolentino Jr., who was reelected as secretary general, made it back to the 15-member NCFP Board of Directors following elections held yesterday at the Golden Bay Restaurant, Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard, Pasay City.
“It’s the vision of Pichay to produce 10 more grandmasters and have more international tournaments,” said outgoing executive director Red Dumuk.
During his watch, the NCFP has held 54 international tournaments since 2006.
Pichay and Tolentino, both accumulated 28 votes during the proceedings.
Also reelected were Atty. Cliburn Anthony Orbe, former Bayan Muna Partylist Rep. Neri Javier Colmenares, Atty. Ruel Canobas, Judge Gonzalo Mapili, Atty. Edmundo Legaspi and DepEd Usec. Tonisito Umali.
Orbe, the president of the newly formed Philippine Executive Chess Association, is the federation treasurer.
Col. Jeff Tamayo of the Philippine Olympic Committee witnessed the election for the POC.
