Trade between the Philippines and Australia is expected to sustain its growth in 2018 following a 70-percent increase over the past seven years.
Australian trade commissioner to the Philippines Elodie Journet said trading across the region was now a lot easier with the Asean-Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement which reduced tariffs for a long list of product lines to zero.
“Since Asean ANZ FTA was forged in 2010, we’ve seen an increase in trade between the Philippines and Australia by 70 percent,” she said.
“I think there is a strong synergy between our two economies. We’re seeing successful companies and I anticipate that we’ll actually grow more. We don’t see us as a one way street because we are also seeing great appetite and interest from Filipino organizations to invest and engage in Australia, as well,” she said.
