Operatives of the National Bureau of Investigation-Criminal Intelligence Division (NBI-CRID) have arrested a man for large scale illegal recruitment, during an entrapment operation in Manila recently.

NBI Director Dante Gierran identified the suspect as Rico Paguio, a former OFW who worked in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and a resident of Dagupan St., Tondo, Manila.

The case stemmed from a complaint of six persons against the suspect who had been recruiting victims for work abroad, specifically in Saudi Arabia on the pretext that he was connected to Sunergeous Mapower Services Corporation, when in fact he has resigned from the said company since February 2017.

The suspect had obtained from the victims a total of P 98,200 allegedly as down payment for processing their overseas employment.

Police said more or less 50 victims have been recruited by the suspect.

A Certification from Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) revealed that the suspect is not licensed nor authorized to recruit workers for overseas employment.

With this information, an entrapment operation was conducted inside a mall in Manila last January 11 resulting in the arrest of the suspect.

Documents are now being readied for the filing of charges against Paguio for violation of Republic Act 8042 (Large Scale Illegal Recruitment) and Estafa.
