Members of the minority in the Senate have filed a resolution seeking an investigation into the procurement of two frigates of the Philippine Navy.
The deal is worth P 15.7 billion.
Senators who have asked for a probe are Francis Pangilinan, Franklin Drilon, Antonio Trillanes, Bam Aquino, Risa Hontiveros and Leila de Lima.
The issue caught controversy due to allegations that Special Assistant to the President Christopher "Bong" Go allegedly intervened in the deal by supposedly endorsing Korean firm Hanwha to supply the warships' Combat Management System (CMS).
The senators want the Senate Committee on National Defense and Security and the Congressional Oversight Committee on the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Modernization Act to look into the purchases made in relation to the frigates.
Go said he had no involvement in the transaction.
Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana also said, Go did not interfere in the project.
Presidential Spokerperson Harry Roque welcomes the resolution seeking an investigation.
He said Go had no hand in the procurement.
Roque explained the bidder for the contract was already chosen during the time of Former President Noynoy Aquino.
