Rody threatens Prietos with plunder charges

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte warned Wednesday he would eventually file plunder charges against the Prieto family, former owners of a newspaper critical of his administration, the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

“One of these days, I’ll file a plunder case. When I file a plunder case, you will go to jail without a bail. You’ll see, you fools,” Duterte said.

Duterte, appearing unaware that the Prietos have already sold the newspaper to San Miguel’s Ramon Ang and returned a Makati property back to the government, insisted that they were cheating the government and used their media outfits to escape accountability.

“You have been plundering government with your non-payment of taxes and hanging on to the property of government way beyond the years of the contract, he said.

In August last year, Duterte said he would sell off the Mile Long commercial strip in Makati after the Rufino-Prieto-owned Sunvar Realty Development Corp. said that they would comply with a Makati court’s ruling to vacate the contested property.

The President said he would not agree to a settlement, and once again took potshots at the broadsheet daily formerly owned by the Prieto group.

He also threatened to file economic sabotage charges against Sunvar, warning its owners that they will suffer the same fate as the embattled Senator Leila de Lima.
