With four veterans leading the way, the defending champion Far Eastern University-Diliman Baby Tamaraws came up with big numbers to put away the University of the East Junior Warriors, 91-63.
The Baby Tams drew 21 points from LJ Gonzales as they bounced back from their 81-86 loss to the Adamson Baby Falcons on Wednesday afternoon in the 80th University Athletic Association of the Philippines Junior Basketball Tournament at the Arena in San Juan.
Bryan Sajonia poured in 17 points for the Baby Tams, who went on to post their fifth triumph in nine matches.
Royce Alforque and Rei Tolentino added 12 and 10 points in lifting the Baby Tams into Final Four contention.
They now share the third position with the University of Santo Tomas Tiger Cubs.
The Baby Tams were never in trouble after they posted a 53-22 halftime spread.
Their win nearly overshadowed the games of the Ateneo Blue Eaglets and the Nazareth School National Bullpups.
The Blue Eaglets, led by Dave Ildefonso, Jason Credo and Joaqui Manuel with 12, 11 and 10 points, coasted to a 66-47 smashing of the Adamson Falcons.
This kept the Blue Eaglets spotless after nine games, and in contention for an outright finals berth.
The Bullpups prevailed over De La Salle Zobel,85-67, with Terrence Fortea topped with 20 points on top of four assists.
This kept the Bullpups solid at no. 2 with their 7-2 card.
