TACLOBAN CITY”•The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council continued its rescue operations after a landslide caused by heavy rains across the entire Eastern Visayas hit the city on Saturday.
The rescue team retrieved two bodies from the Barangay 43-B Quarry District landslide site, at the corner of Cong. Artemio Mate Avenue and Rizal Extension streets, after a three-day search and retrieval operation led by CDRRMC chairman Mayor Cristina G. Romualdez.
“It’s difficult but we are doing our best. I salute the resuce team for not giving up despite the risky task,” said Romualdez.
The victims were identified as Delia Carson and Zoe Hernandez.
The CDRRMC team continues to search for two more missing persons identified as a certain “Alex” and the mother of Zoe Hernandez, who was also the barangay secretary.
The landslide caused a concrete wall to collapse, flattening eight houses.
The Rescue team was composed of volunteers from the Tacloban Rescue Units-CDRRMC; City Engineering Office; the Traffic Operation Management Enforcement and Control Office; Bureau of Fire Protection Special Rescue Unit; Armed Forces of the Philippines Engineering Battalion; Chamber Fire Rescue Unit; Delta Green Rescue Unit; Delta Orange Rescue Unit; UNTV Rescue Unit; United Medics; and other rescue groups and amateur radio organizations.
