GSIS Furies confident against Malacanang-PSC in UNTV Cup

DESPITE a loss at the hands of two-time champion Judiciary Magis last Sunday, the GSIS Furies are confident ahead of a collision with Season 5 runner-up Malacañang-PSC Kamao at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Pasig City Sports Center.

“Eventhough natalo kami rito (Judiciary Magis), ‘yung mood sa dug out maganda pa rin. They are still hoping, tatrabahuhin daw nila,” GSIS coach Mike Saguigit said.

The Furies now have a 5-3 record, while the Kamao tote a 5-2 card.

For the Furies, winning the match against the Palace’s hoopers is a must in order to ease into the quarterfinal round.

“Made-determine ‘yun sa Final 4, ‘yung top four. If we’re going to win that game, ‘yung status namin sa Top 4 magiging solid,” Saguigit said.

Saguitguit’s side is also awaiting a hard-court battle against the NHA Builders on Jan. 21.

Of the eight remaining teams in the second-round of elimination, the seventh and eighth placers will exit the league.

Numbers 1 and 2 teams will automatically advance to the semifinal round both holding a twice-to-beat advantage, while numbers 3 to 6 will battle in the quarterfinals, with the third- and fourth-placers both possessing a twice-to-beat advantages.
