FILIPINOS remain optimistic over their quality of life in 2018 in a new “record high,” according to the latest Social Weather Stations survey released Tuesday, which also showed more Filipinos maintaining their positive outlook on the country’s economy.
In the latest survey conducted from Dec. 8 to 16, some 49 percent of Filipino adults expect their quality of life to improve in the next 12 months (“Optimists”), while 3 percent expect it to get worse.
Net Personal Optimism rose to +46, classified by the SWS as “excellent” from +42 in the previous quarter.
The same survey also revealed that 52 percent feel optimistic about the general Philippine economy next year getting better, and 9 percent feeling it would deteriorate.
Net Optimism about the Economy likewise rose +42, classified as “excellent” — some 12 points above the +30 in the previous quarter.
Some 41 percent of those who were surveyed said their lives improved, while 18 percent said they worsened, for a new record-high Net Gainers score of +23, still classified as “excellent.”
The net change in Personal Quality of Life is 4 points above the previous record of +19 in September 2017.
Palace Spokesman Harry Roque welcomed the renewed optimism of Filipinos in facing the new year, saying this was due to the fact “that the President has shown that he has political will to make changes as he promised in the elections.”
“The people know that all the directions taken by the President are towards the right direction and that they seem to be benefiting from initiatives undertaken by the President,” he added.
The latest poll, fielded amongst 1,200 adult respondents nationwide, had sampling error margins of ±3 percent for national percentages.
