Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) Administrator Marcial Quirico Amaro III has been sacked by President Rodrigo Duterte.
This was announced by Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque in press briefing this afternoon in Davao City.
Excessive trips were cited as the reason.
Amaro repprtedly made 24 foreign trips since he was appointed, three of these travels were financed by organizations that invited him.
"We want government officials to be modest," Roque stressed.
He also said, "foreign trips must be related to functions of government. They must not be costly and benefits must be substantiated."
"Do not engage in junkets," Roque reminded government officials.
Duterte has yet to name Amaro's replacement.
"Wala pa po (there's none yet) pero with 100 million Filipinos, I'm sure one Filipino can do the job," Roque told news reporters.
