Organizers of the Black Nazarene procession this year are including a change in the route of the procession.
They report, the procession will avoid passing through Lagusnilad Bridge in Manila.
Manila Police District (MPD) Director Joel Coronel says, the procession will use the westbound lane of P. Burgos Street.
Then the Nazarene devotees will be led to Jones Bridge.
Authorities say, this route, which is counterflow to the regular traffic route, is safer.
On Wednesday, Coronel and Quiapo Church rector Monsignor Hernando "Ding" Coronel inspected the route.
They checked out the roads from Quirino Granstand in Luneta to P. Burgos.
The Nazararene procession on Tuesday next week (January 9) will begin at 5 am from the grandstand.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) is set to deploy 5,700 cops for the event.
Organizers are to release more guidelines on Friday.
