Tropical storm Vinta has maintained its strength as it moves towards Eastern Mindanao.
It is expected to make landfall over CARAGA-Davao regions this evening or tomorrow morning.
Vinta's current location is 340 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.
It is packing maximum susptained winds of up to 65 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and up to 80 kph.
Vinta is moving west at 18 kph.
Storm signal number 2 is up over Surigao del Norte including Siargao Island, Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur and Northern Davao Oriental.
Storm signal number 1 is in place over Southern Leyte, southern portions of Leyte, Southern Cebu, Siquijor, Bohol, Dinagat Island, Camiguin, Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental, Bukidnon, Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, North Cotabato, Maguindanao, rest of Davao Oriental, Northern Davao del Sur, Compostela Valley, Davao del Norte and Zamboanga del Sur.
During its news briefing, PAGASA Weather Services Division Chief Esperanza Cayanan stressed that heavy rainfall may already be experienced in several areas in Eastern Mindanao.
She is concerned that the storm is battering provinces where there are small mining operations.
She noted these places are very prone to landslides and mudflows.
