Munti’s year 100 festivities on today

A festive spirit will fill the roads of Muntinlupa as the city commemorates its 100th founding anniversary as an independent municipality today.

Thousands of Muntinlupeños were expected to join the “Grand Centennial Salubong” at midnight on Monday, celebrating Muntinlupa’s Centenary date on Dec. 19.

All nine barangays have organized live musical performances and shows featuring local artists and indie bands, capped with a fireworks display.

Some of the bands and artists performing in the Grand Salubong include Ely Buendia’s Apartel, DJ Eva Ronda (MOR 101.9), The Blanc, and RX2 Band in Poblacion, Side A, Salbakuta, True Faith, and DJ Roy in Alabang, The Juans, DJ Panyero (101.1 YES FM), Cheesemelt, JP Band, and Salinlaji in Bayanan, and many more.

Public Information Officer Tez Navarro said the “Grand Salubong” will be a simultaneous festival from Tunasan to Sucat. She invited all Muntinlupa residents to celebrate the milestone.

On Tuesday 19, Muntinlupa will also hold a Thanksgiving Mass at the City Hall Quadrangle, after which Mayor Jaime Fresnedi will lead the blessing and inauguration of the Muntinlupa City Fire Station and Command Center in Tunasan.

The Grand Celebration of Muntinlupa’s 100th founding year will be held at Muntinlupa Sports Complex starting 3:30 p.m.. Vice President Leni Robredo will be the Centennial Celebration’s Guest of Honor.

Malacañang has declared Dec. 19 as special non-working holiday in Muntinlupa City through Proclamation No. 327.

As part of the Muntinlupa Centennial Celebration, the city is also hosting this year’s highly anticipated star-studded Metro Manila Film Festival Parade of Stars.
