A Cebu Pacific Air flight from Narita to Cebu was diverted to Nagoya, Japan due to a technical glitch, the airline disclosed on Thursday.
In its advisory, the CEB management said “flight 5J 5063, bound for Cebu, was diverted to Nagoya, Japan due to a technical issue. The aircraft has landed safely at the Chubu Centrair International Airport.”
It added the aircraft departed Narita Airport at about 12:05 p.m. and expected to arrive Cebu at 4:40 p.m.
“We have contingencies in place to assist passengers and expedite checking of the aircraft. We will provide updates as soon as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience, but it is imperative we prioritize the safety of the flight and all our passengers,” the airline stated.
Some passengers expressed their disappointments through social media.
“Yung papunta ka ng Cebu tapos dinala ka sa Japan! Kainis!,” said Jelly Pantoja Aureus in her Facebook account post.
Jayoma MJ also said “Bound to Cebu sana, napuntang Japan because of technical issue. Nakakabahala but somehow lucky, Instant nakapunta ng Nagoya.”
The incident happened as Transportation department secretary Arthur Tugade ordered the transport sectors—aviation, railways, road and maritime—to further intensify their respective safety and security measures in preparation for the Christmas season when thousands flock to terminals to travel and spend the holidays in the provinces.
He also reminded transportation officials and personnel to assure the riding public not only safety and security, but also comfort while in the various bus terminals, sea and airports, and train stations.
The transportation chief also pointed out that both the government and commuting public “must be proactive, alert and vigilant,” share information and maintain close coordination among stakeholders that would further improve the security safety nets in the transport sectors.
