Malacañang on Tuesday said that it respects the re-inclusion of arrested Senator Leila de Lima in Foreign Policy magazine’s list of “leading global thinkers”— but reminded the publication of her alleged involvement in the illegal drug trade.
“What can I say? That’s the decision of the magazine. So, c’est la vie (that’s life),” Presidentia Spokesman Harry Roque said.
“As far as the Philippine authorities are concerned, she stands charged—a very serious charges and there is in fact no bail recommended for her provisional liberty. That’s the position of the State,” he added.
De Lima joined the list of this year’s Leading Global reThinkers of 2017, which included South Korea President Moon Jae-in, United Kingdom Labor Party leader Jeremy Corbin, French President Emmanuel Macron, US Senator Kamala Haris, artist and human rights activist Ai Weiwei, and US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Halley, among others.
