LIZA del Rosario of the Philippines missed the women’s singles Final Four by just 18 pins and landed 6th overall among 176 competitors in the elimination round opener Sunday (Monday morning in Manila) of the World Bowling Championships at the South Point Hotel Casino in Las Vegas.
Del Rosario actually finished third behind Futaba Imai (1322) and Shion Izumune (1298) in the second squad (Group B) battle but her overall score was good only for sixth overall.
World Cup titlist Krizziah Lyn Tabora (1228) finished at 13th and Liza Clutario (1227) placed 14th.
The elimination matches in the first squad (Group A) was topped by Hong Haeni of Korea, Chan Shuk Han of Hongkong and Maiginge Jensen of Denmark. The Philippines’ Lara Posadas placed 10th with 1237 points.
Merwin Tan, Kevin Cu and John Paul Macatula also missed the cut in the men’s singles’ play.
Team manager Bong Coo said Macatula, Tan and Cu will return to the lanes today for the men’s doubles eliminations. Macatulad is paired with Raoul Miranda, Tan with Kenneth Chua and Cu with Jomar Jumapao.
