Demi-Leigh is a 22-year-old business management graduate.
The last time South Africa won the title was in 1978.
The first runner up was Miss Colombia Laura Gonzalez.
The second runner up was Miss Jamaica Davina Bennett.
The Philippines' bet Rachel Peters made it to the Top 10 or until the evening gown competition.
Former Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach returned to the pageant as a judge.
Comedian Steve Harvey once again hosted the event.
