Through the SGLG, the national government recognizes LGUs that demonstrate exemplary performance in local governance.

This year, SGLG awardees passed a more rigorous assessment as the DILG upped the criteria to a 4+1 principle, pertaining to the various facets of local governance as classified by the department.

To become a recipient of the SGLG award, an LGU must pass all four core assessment areas namely Financial Administration, Disaster Preparedness, Social Protection, and Peace and Order.

“We are very thankful and honored to receive the highest award bestowed by the DILG to LGUs. This is a humbling validation that we are on the right track in terms of public service,” Tiangco said.

He also acknowledged everyone who helped the city achieve the said milestone and reminded them to continue serving Navoteños wholeheartedly.

“I extend my appreciation and gratitude to our city council, department heads, city hall employees, and other functionaries. Their genuine desire and commitment to observe the best practices in governance and public service made this happen.

“I also thank our constituents for their constant support to the projects and programs of the city government,” he said.

It also requires that an LGU must meet at least one of the essential assessment areas which include Environmental Management, Business-Friendliness and Competitiveness, and Tourism, Culture and the Arts.

Among the other recipients of the SGLG award in Metro Manila are Caloocan, Malabon, Mandaluyong, Pasay, Pasig, Quezon City and San Juan.
