SBC starts bid for record 22nd title

SAN Beda College launches its bid to become the most titled school in the history of the league as it takes on Emilio Aguinaldo College at the start of the 93rd NCAA football competition at the Rizal Memorial pitch on Friday.

The Red Booters are currently tied with La Salle, a former league member before bolting to the UAAP in the 80s, with 21 senior championships apiece and would have a chance at a league-best 22nd title if they end up winning it all this year.

The road to history starts at 2 p.m. against EAC.

San Beda has lorded it over the field in the last two decades, seizing 14 of the last 16 crowns.

The only two that escaped its grasp came in 2009 when St. Benilde went all the way and in 2015 when Arellano University completed a Cinderella finish.

The other match scheduled in the inaugurals are St. Benilde battling Mapua at 4 p.m. and Arellano University colliding with Perpetual Help at 6 p.m.

“It’s going to be an exciting football season, that’s for sure,” said Arellano University’s Peter Cayco, who chairs the Management Committee group organizing football this year.

San Beda will also defend the juniors’ crown as it squares off with Perpetual Help on Nov. 27.

Also tipped to face off on that same day are AU against Lyceumat 4 p.m. and Letran and Emilio Aguinaldo at 6 p.m.
