Kapuso Foundation steps up fundraising efforts for Marawi

GMA Network’s socio-civic arm, GMA Kapuso Foundation (GMAKF), has launched multi-platform efforts to raise funds for its plans to help rebuild war-torn Marawi City.

GMAKF’s project dubbed, “Rebuild Marawi” includes constructing typhoon resistant classrooms and the distribution of food and hygiene kits in temporary shelters (tent cities). A related project, “Kapuso Para sa Kawal” is also in the works, particularly aimed at injured soldiers, to help them get back on their feet again.

Rebuild Marawi Microsite

GMA New Media, Inc. created a microsite for GMAKF, which provides different ways for people to get involved in the Rebuild Marawi project. The site, which can be accessed via the link www.gmanetwork.com/RebuildMarawi, features the latest news on Marawi City, first-hand stories from the displaced and wounded who were traumatized by the conflict, and steps on how people, in their own way, can help aid the recovery of the city and its residents.

Through GMAKF, everyone can take positive action to help Rebuild Marawi – by giving hope, sharing love, donating to build new classrooms and volunteering.  Send inspiring letters and artwork to displaced families and soldiers stationed in the city, send Halal relief goods and/or hygiene kits, donate in cash for the future of the Filipino youth, or donate time and join relief- packing operations.

Meanwhile, a link to the initiative “Kapuso Para sa Kawal”, which adopts a three-pronged approach to serve amputee soldiers who fought terrorists and insurgents, can also be seen on the microsite.  The project aims to replace lost limb (or limbs) with prosthetics, rehabilitate by providing psychological and physical therapy, and help regenerate sources of livelihood so the injured soldiers can continue to lead productive lives.

GMAKF also created a music video for the theme song of its project entitled, ”Ibangon ang Marawi” which was composed and sung by young residents of Marawi City. Composed by Aslanie Malawi and sung by 13-year-old Johanisah “Lovely” Racman, the song poignantly invites everyone to unite and help Marawi City rise again from the rubble.
