The Catholic Church and labor groups lauded the Association of Southeast Asian Nations’ move to protect and promote the rights of migrant workers across the region, saying it is a positive step towards an improved labor and occupational safety standards among Asean 10-member states.
Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines-Episcopal Commission on Migrants on Itinerant People chairman Balanga Bishop Ruperto Santos described the agreement as “caring and helpful” initiative of the Asean leaders.
