CLOSE to 200 solo parents in Quezon City have been granted livelihood aid under the “Tindahan ni Ate Joy” livelihood program of the Office of the Vice Mayor.
Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte said P10,000 worth of “sari-sari” store merchandise were each given to 200 single parents as beneficiaries of her livelihood program.
On its fifth year, the program is providing a startup business support for jobless solo parents.
Belmonte, daughter of former House Speaker and District 4 Rep. Feliciano Belmonte Jr., recently spearheaded the distribution of the variety store merchandise at the city hall.
She said almost a thousand solo parents have already benefited since the start of the “Tindahan ni Ate Joy” program in 2012.

Those qualified to benefit from the program are solo parents with city government-issued identification cards, are unemployed, living with school-age children, between 30 and 60 years old, Philippine Health Insurance Corp. member, and willing to participate in or have already attended entrepreneurial training seminars.
Apart from the livelihood assistance, the city government is also equipping such parents with the basic entrepreneurship training seminars in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry, Belmonte said.
