THE Quezon City Council has passed a resolution adopting the formulation and implementation of the Quezon City Contingency Plan for flood and earthquake as mandated in the Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Operations Manual.

The QCCP and QCDRRMC-OM have set the standard response in a worst-case scenario and the standard operating procedure during emergencies and calamities.

District 2 Councilor Ramon Medalla authored the resolution to acknowledge the importance of having a ready contingency plan during floods and earthquakes, particularly for the expected “Big One” quake estimated to reach Intensity 7.4.

The local disaster risk reduction and management plan must be in accordance with the national, regional and provincial framework, while policies on disaster risk reduction should be in close coordination with the local development councils.

“The formulation and implementation of the QCCP for flood, earthquake, and QCDRRMC OM is anchored on the scientific knowledge and deep understanding of the city hazards, vulnerability and risk to human induced or natural disaster or calamities, and has undertaken a collaborative and comprehensive planning process with the help of earthquake and megacities initiatives,” the resolution read

Mayor Herbert Bautista said the city has made an unprecedented P300-million investment in public safety, with emphasis on programs and projects that enhance disaster preparedness and response capability.

Meanwhile, Bautista approved an ordinance declaring a parcel of land in Barangay Gulod, Novaliches as a socialized housing project site on Tatlong Hari Street with an area of 400 square meters.

The socialized housing project in Gulod is one of Quezon City’s solutions to solve the urban poor dwelling problem.
