Fewer Pinoys think drug war hits only the poor

The number of Filipinos who believe that it is only the poor and not the rich who are being killed in the administration’s bloody drug war slipped by six points in the previous quarter, but it remained the majority sentiment, the latest Social Weather Stations survey revealed.

Nationwide, 54 percent of Filipinos agreed that only the poor were getting killed, down from 60 percent in June this year.

Of the 54 percent, some 31 percent “strongly agree” while the remaining 23 percent said they “somewhat agree” with the sentiment.

Another 25 percent of those surveyed disagreed that only poor people are being killed while 21 percent remain undecided.

The survey result showed a net agreement score +29, classified by SWS as “moderately strong.”

Net agreement that only poor drug pushers are killed was highest in Metro Manila at a very strong +49, down 12 points from the extremely strong +61 in June.

It stayed very strong in Balance Luzon at +37, up by 3 points from +34 during the second quarter survey.

At least 50 percent of the respondents agreed that many of those killed in the anti-drug campaign did not fight back, while 23 percent disagreed and 26 percent remained undecided.

The survey, conducted from Sept. 23-27, had 1,500 respondents and a sampling error margin at ±3 percent for national percentages.
