THE Quezon City government is putting up its own crematorium to service the poor.

In an interview, Ramon Matabang, head of the city civil registry, said the city’s first crematorium located inside Baesa public cemetery is undergoing construction “right now.”

“We are doing a comparative study to determine our fee for cremation against the fee for a private cremation,” he told the Manila Standard.

The facility will lie in a 200-square meter property of the city-owned Baesa cemetery on Quirino Highway.

According to Matabang, the crematorium will be operational in December or in January 2018. The city government will set up at least two cremation machines, he said.

The civil registry personnel assigned to monitor three of the city’s public cemeteries shall be trained to operate the cremation machines, he added.
