Return of more Marawi residents to be allowed next week

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) will resume next week the delicate process of allowing the return of more residents to their homes in Marawi City.

Task Group Ranao Deputy Commander Colonel Romeo Brawner stressed, the movement will be conducted under very strict conditions.

This is to make sure terrorists and outlaws will not be able to mingle with residents and occupy what remains of the houses in Marawi City.

In a news briefing on Thursday, Brawner said, an identification (ID) system will also be enforced.

The military's schedule will depend on the help and participation of barangay officials.

"Sila ang magsasabi kung ang mga bumabalik ay mga tunay na residente sa barangay nila (they will be the ones who will say if the returnees are really residents in their barangay)," Brawner explained.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has divided Marawi City into clusters.

Brawner said, some residents in Cluster 4 may return on October 26 or on Thursday next week.

Residents in Clusters 1 to 3 have already gone back to their houses.

Some Maute terrorists are still fighting with soldiers in the main battle area and they are holding hostages.

Sporadic gunshots can still be heard by people staying at the Provincial Capitol.
