We had the chance to talk to TV’s woman of the hour, the star GMA Network calls “TV’s Sweetheart” for lack of anything more fitting her stature, both in show business and in society, in one of the sorties to promote her currently top-rating series (perhaps the only one in the Kapuso’s primetime shows giving rival network a difficult time to defeat in the rating surveys, either Kantar or Nutam).
Heart Evangelista gladly answered our questions. Here are excerpts from the conversation.
How do you feel about fans being thrilled about your show and your tandem (with Alexander Lee)?
I find it really pleasurable. The last time I sensed something like this was many years ago. I think that was when I had a show with John Prats…hahaha! Chiz (Senator Escudero) went to a gathering one time and it was kind of serious, but the writers and the catering staff were calling me Gia! I was so surprised and at the same time glad.
How are you with Alexander?
We’re okay. He is a nice guy. One time he came to visit me at home, I was painting then. He asked if I was busy because he wanted to translate a song (it was in English) to Korean. He said he’d just eat with Chiz if I don’t have the time.
What does he eat?
Anything. Lechon na paksiw tsaka embutido.
What happened in Naga?
Yes, after the mall show, we drove to Sorsogon (for three hours) and there we had late dinner. It was Ms. Redgyn Alba’s birthday so we had a little celebration. We got there almost midnight, but we stayed up only for not more than a couple of hours because we had to be up early for our flight back to Manila from Legazpi.
Alexander had a great time. He said our province is beautiful and very different from Korea. And we were both astonished to see some 20,000 people in the mall in Naga.
Your fans are thrilled to see you with Alexander.
Yeah and we’re glad that we’re breaking the traditional perception that a star should be single to have chemistry with her leading man.
Do you respond to comments by fans?
Yes, to all, because that’s how I extend my appreciation for their support for the show.
What are your plans for your two decades in show business?
I don’t know. I think I’m going to have a baby on my 20th year.

The first on-screen kiss between Heart and Alexander was lapped up by followers of the show. And so was the love triangle among Ricky Davao, Janice de Belen and Raymart Santiago.
The kiss happened in a scene shot in Las Casa Filipinas de Acuzar in Bataan.
Meanwhile Tita Aida (Janice de Belen) and Tita Josie (Ricky Davao) were pulling hair over Dodong (Raymart Santiago), and the fans loved it.
I think this what gets the fans hooked on th show.

Alexander Lee’s mother and sister came to Manila. The Korean actor said he was happy that her mom and sister, Victoria, immediately felt at home in the Philippines.
“Here in the Philippines, I already feel at home already so when they came here, it felt even more like home so I’m really happy about it,” Alexander said.
Alexander’s mom was very happy to see his son doing very well in the Philippines and glad to learn his Filipino fans really love him. Victoria, his sister said, “It’s very new, I like the whole new idea combination of Korean drama and the Philippines. As a sister, I’m very proud of him and I have a lot of hope for his future career.”
