TOUGH defense led the Senate Defenders to a 91-81 win against the GSIS Furies in the third game on Sunday’s UNTV Cup triple header at the Pasig City Sports Center.
“Pinaghandaan talaga namin ‘yung individual defense, para gumanda ‘yung team defense. Kanina nakita niyo result ang individual defense, tru-map kami, nag-straight match up kami, nag half-court trap so maganda nga ‘yung resulta,” Senate head coach Mike Fermin said.
Jeffry Sanders was hailed as the Best Player of the Game after scoring 17 points and grabbing seven boards.
Meanwhile, Senator Joel Villanueva contributed 10 points and Senator Sonny Angara had seven points to the Defenders, who now have a 2-0 record.
In the first game of the triple-header, the AFP Cavaliers handed Commission on Audit Enablers its second loss after the two-time champion beat the rookie team, 127-103.
The soldiers were led by Best Players of the Game Alvin Zuniga with 28 points and Vicente Evidor, who made 25 points.
The AFP Cavaliers are undefeated after two games.
Meanwhile, the Department of Agriculture rose in Group B with a 2-1 record after stunning the Ombudsman team, 98-61.
DA administrative assistant 1 Christian Dematera led the team with 23 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.
