Ramirez to pool student athletes

THE Philippine Sports Commission wants a pool of student athletes to be formed after the 2018 Palarong Pambansa in Vigan, Ilocos Sur.

These young student athletes who are aged 18 years old and below will be supported by the PSC when they are sent to the ASEAN School Games and other youth games in the future.

“After the Palaro, dun pa lang sila ia-assemble at ipadala sa international meets. Dapat alagaan ang mga batang ito,” said Ramirez.

The student athletes are those who have won medals in their respective events.

Ramirez said he is set discuss this plans with officials of the Commission on Higher Education, led by secretary Patricia Licuanan when they go  into a series of  discussions for the next two days.

The PSC is meeting with Education officials from the Department of Education and the CHED as  part of efforts to  help strengthen the development of school sports.

Licuanan will attend the the National Consultative Meeting for Collegiate Sports that will be held at the Philsports Multipurpose Arena in Pasig City from Oct. 17 to 18. Peter Atencio

The meeting serves as a follow-up to the previous gathering with school-based athletic associations held November last year.

Philippine Sports Commission chairman William “Butch”  Ramirez  said it is hoped that from the first meeting last year, positive developments have opened up to allow more partnership between universities, colleges, athletic associations and the PSC.

Senator Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara, Sen. Loren Legarda, Sen. Emmanuel “Manny” D. Pacquiao will also be around with school officials from 140 universities and colleges in the Philippines.
