The drop in his satisfaction and trust ratings in the latest opinion polls does not really matter to him, President Rodrigo Duterte said Friday as he vowed to continue working to fulfill his campaign promises.
“It does not really matter to me kasi lahat ng ginagawa ko, those were exactly the words that I used during the campaign,” the President said in an interview over state-run PTV-4.
What matters, Duterte said, is the number that won him the May 2016 presidential race.
“I am not hungry for statistics. Tapos na po iyan. Yung 16 million ko [voters], yun na po yung statistics ko,” he added.
In the latest third quarter Social Weather survey conducted by the Social Weather Stations from Sept. 23 to 27 with 1,500 respondents that was released Sunday, Duterte’s net satisfaction ratings slipped to “good” +48 from June’s “very good” +66—with 67 percent of adult Filipinos satisfied with Duterte’s performance, while 14 percent were undecided, and 19 percent were dissatisfied.
Meanwhile, the latest September Ulat ng Bayan survey conducted by Pulse Asia from Sept. 24 to 30 with 1,200 respondents and came out Friday, showed Duterte retaining his big majority approval and trust ratings—with 80 percent of respondents saying that they approve of the President and 7 percent expressing their disapproval. Another 14 percent said that they were undecided.
Some 80 percent of those surveyed likewise said they have big trust on Duterte, while 6 percent expressed no trust. The undecided meanwhile, is at 14 percent.
During the interview, Duterte said that he must fulfill all the good things and commit to all the promises he pledged to the Filipino people.
“I have to honor what I promised because that is my covenant with the people,” Duterte said.
“Eh sinabi ko na ho. Pati lahat ng mga mura ko, kasali na doon. Wala na kong tinago,” he added.
The Palace had earlier welcomed Duterte retaining his “big majority” approval and trust ratings in the Pulse Asia survey, despite criticism of his fierce war on drugs and allegations of hidden wealth.
