Two mega road projects of the Department of Works and Highways set to be completed this year will provide safe and convenient road travel in Cotabato and Masbate provinces.
DPWH Region 12 Director Basir Ibrahim said two road widening projects along an eight-kilometer portion of P239-million Marbel-Makar Road in Polomok, South Cotabato are now 76 percent completed.
“We are six percent ahead of schedule and we hope that before the end of 2017, our aim to widen the road from two lanes to four lanes will be fully-accomplished,” he said.
The widening of Marbel-Makar Road will benefit travelers going to the Port of General Santos City where traffic is expected to increase during the Christmas holidays.
The multi-million projects are part of the road widening program being implemented all over Soccsksargen Region.
Meanwhile, the upgrading of 10-km Masbate-Cataingan-Placer Road in the province of Masbate is expected to be completed by end of 2017, Public Works chief Mark Villar said.
He said the P178.2-million road improvement is one of the priority projects of the department that is seen to enhance Masbate’s socio-economic status.
“The Masbate-Cataingan-Placer Road improvement project would strengthen road connectivity within the towns of Uson, Dimasalang, Palanas, Cataingan, and Placer in Masbate and other neighboring areas,” DPWH Region 5 Director Danilo Versola said.
Versola said the smoother road network would provide convenience to the traveling public and allow faster and efficient movement of agricultural and marine products and other basic services from Masbate to other towns and vice versa.
