HAVING a training center that’s dedicated to the needs of the national athletes is the key for excellence in international competitions.
“Kung wala nito, mahihirapan tayo,” said Cojuangco last Friday during the thanksgiving mass and dinner party for athletes who saw action in the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games delegation Friday night at V Corporate building in Makati City.
With a training center around, Cojuangco said he believes the country will be able to end its gold medal drought in the Olympics in the 2020 Tokyo Games.
He said that homegrown athletes could win around five gold medals in the Olympics if they are given the proper support in nutrition and in training.
They could also get results from Fil-foreign athletes in swimming and in athletics.
However, Cojuangco did not name the athletes and the national sports associations who will most likely earn medals in the Games.
Cojuangco said there’s a master plan already in the works for the construction of a new sports facility in Clark Green City.
On the other hand, he said that the local government unit of Iba, Zambales, also has plans to put up a training center.
“Basta na inaalagan ang atleta, by the time that they are going to compete, ready na sila,” said Cojuangco.
