Surrender of another suspect in Castillo slay expected

Manila Police District (MPD) Director Chief Superintendent Joel Coronel is expecting the surrender of one of the three main suspects in the fatal hazing of University of Sto Tomas freshman law student Horacio Castillo.

Coronel identified the suspect as Antonio Trangia, the father of Raphael Trangia who is an officer of Aegis Juris fraternity.

The elder Trangia is expected to surface within the day, prior to this evening's investigation of the Senate into Castillo's death.

The Trangias were initially reported to have been the ones who brought the body of Castillo to the Chinese General Hospital on September 17 after they supposedly found the student lying on a pavement in Balut, Tondo, Manila.

Barangay officials in Tondo, however, said no such incident happened in their area.

Trangia's son has fled to Chicago, Illinois via Taiwan.

The main suspect, John Paul Solano, underwent inquest proceedings at the Department of Justice.

Solano was wearing an MPD detainee's t-shirt.

He was hiding his handcuffs.

Solano is facing charges of murder, perjury and obstruction of justice.

He earlier said he was not present during the initiation rites.

He claimed he was only called by his fellow fraternity members to try to save the life of the neophyte.

Solano's lawyer questioned the continued detention of his client at the MPD.

Meanwhile, Castillo's parents went to the MPD Homicide Section on Monday.

They did not see Solano.

The two camps are expected at the Senate hearing this evening.
