Supreme Court (SC) Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno has submitted a counter-affidavit to the impeachment complaint filed against her at the House of Representatives.
In a press conference on Monday, her lawyers claimed the alleged violations cited by complainant Attorney Larry Gadon do not constitute grounds for impeachment.
Sereno's legal counsel, Attorney Alex Poblador, said the accusation that the chief magistrate had purchased a luxury vehicle, for example, is baseless and false.
Poblador explained the purchase of a Land Cruiser was approved by the SC en banc.
He said prior to this procurement, Sereno had used hand-me-down cars that would break down.
Sereno supposedly protected herself by hanging a bulletproof blanket by her window and wore bulletproof vest.
Poblador added Gadon's allegations are based on newspaper reports and hearsay.
