Instead of going to the streets to protest, Caloocan Mayor Oscar Malapitan led the members of the City Environmental Management Office to plant fire trees (Delonix regia) in the northern and southern parts of the locality.
Initially, Malapitan requested for 10,000 fire trees or flame trees to be planted, but the number doubled as requesters flooded his Facebook account, signifying their support to the project of the city mayor.
The Department of Public Safety and Traffic Management and its action officer Hilario Castro joined the planting.
Malapitan said the trees will add beauty to the roads and give shade. “It will also help clean the air,” he added.
Residents who want to assist in the planting may coordinate with CEMO or DPSTM at Caloocan City hall north or south, the mayor said.
