CUSTOMS authorities seized a one-kilo package of shabu worth P5 million at the Federal Express warehouse at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

The shipment, declared as a guitar amplifier, was intercepted after Customs agents noticed an irregularity in the x-ray monitor of the FedEx warehouse.

Customs examiners on duty immediately conducted a physical examination of the shipment in the presence of agents from the Customs Anti-Illegal Drug Task Force and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and discovered the illegal drugs, said Maj. Jaybee Raul Cometa of the BoC X-ray Inspection Project.

“Concealed in the shipment was a plastic wrapper containing white crystalline substance. The said shipment, to be exported by a certain Che Che Cruz of Philippine Electronics, New Zaniga Mandaluyong, was consigned to a certain Jerry Yu allegedly from Shenton Avenue, Banktown, Sidney, Australia,” he said.

Tests conducted confirmed that the substance was methamphetamine chloride or shabu.

The parcel was seized and turned over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency for proper disposal.

Customs Commissioner Isidro Lapeña commended the combined efforts of government authorities for this successful apprehension, adding that he will not tolerate syndicates using the bureau for the illegal drug trade.
