So makes Round 4 of chess World Cup

FILIPINO grandmaster Wesley So turned back Pons Vallejo of Spain, 4-2, in the third round of the 2017 FIDE World Cup of Chess in Tbilisi, Georgia

He advanced to Round 4 of this meet, which attracted 128 of the world’s strongest players.

Earlier, So got past Colombia’s Danni Castillo, 1.5-05, before he won over Matthias Bluebaum of Germany, 4-2.

World’s no. 1 Magnus Carlsen reached the third  round  after he won over Oluwafemi Balogun of Nigeria and  Aleksev Dreev of Russia in the first two rounds.

But he was knocked out of contention after taking a 0.5-1.5 loss to China Bu Ziangzhi.
