AFP: Omar Maute is alive but 6 brothers are dead

Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Spokesperson Restituto Padilla reports Omar Maute, one of the two leaders of the Maute group, is still alive yet he is the last surviving member of the Maute brothers.

Padilla made the statement amid previous reports from the military that Omar Maute had been killed in Marawi City.

Padilla said what is certain is that the other terrorist leader, Abdullah Maute, and their five other brothers had already died.

Padilla also acknowledged that claims on these six deaths need physical evidence which government forces hope to present.

The AFP Spokesperson, meanwhile, said Isnilon Hapilon, who is supposedly considered the emir of the ISIS in Southeast Asia, is still fighting in Marawi.

As of this week, 639 Maute terrorists have been killed in the clashes with soldiers.

Government forces have lost 145 lives.

46 civilians have died while 1,728 have been rescued since the siege started last May 23.
