Sereno scraps bullet-proof work on SUV, says accuser

A LAWYER who wants Supreme Court Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno impeached said Sunday Sereno had canceled four-million-pesos worth of bullet-proof work on her 2017 Toyota Land Cruiser van worth P5.1 million.

Larry Gadon, who filed a 54-page verified complaint before Congress’ secretary general Cesar Pareja against Sereno, said his impeachment rap could have triggered Sereno to cancel the bullet-proofing of her high-end car.

“The effect of what I did was good. She canceled the bullet-proofing of her vehicle,” Gadon told  dzBB radio.

“Yes, it was already in the process. I had documents to prove about her plan to have her car bullet-proofed. It was stipulated in the endorsement of purchase.”

Gadon said it was improper for a public official to spend a huge amount from the judiciary development funds for her own personal benefit.

“This is just the first time that a chief justice has requested a very expensive vehicle and a bullet-proofing,” Gadon said.

Apart from her purchase of a luxury vehicle, Sereno is  accused of failing to declare in her Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net worth the “exorbitant lawyer’s fees” of $745,000 or P37 million and her expensive travel allowances.
