Actor and social media personality Teejay Marquez was officially launched as Regal Millennial Baby on Wednesday. As a contract star, his first project is a movie with Regal Entertainment opposite an Indonesian actress, among others.
“We wanted to recruit an Indonesian actress to be part of Teejay’s movie with us. Gusto rin naming ipalabas yung pelikula sa Indonesia,” Mother Lily Monteverde said during Teejay’s launch as a Regal Baby.
Some people may not be familiar with the name Teejay Marquez, but in Indonesia, where he’s considered a social media superstar, the young actor is making a name for himself both in the small and the big screens.
Last year, the 23-year-old announced on Facebook that he’s going to play the lead role in a teen drama entitled Dubsmash The Movie. It’s loosely based on his life as an online celebrity who has almost a million followers on Instagram, half a million followers on Facebook and 135 thousand followers on Twitter only the movie is embellished with romantic twists.
Teejay started in showbiz in 2011 as one of the cast members of GMA-7’s Tween Hearts. He even won the Best Male New TV Personality trophy (tied with his co-star Derrick Monasterio) at PMPC Star Awards on the same year. Four years later, he transferred to ABS-CBN where he landed a role in the hit primetime series Dream Dad topbilled by Zanjoe Marudo and Jana Agoncillo. Most recently, he had a very short stint in the family drama The Greatest Love.
