The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee has resumed its investigation into the smuggling of shabu worth P 6.4 billion from China into the Philippines.
On its fifth hearing on Thursday, Customs broker and "fixer" Mark Taguba testified once more.
He was grilled by Committee Chairman Richard Gordon, Senators Antonio Trillanes and Vicente Sotto.
Trillanes was zeroing in on the alleged meeting between Taguba and Davao City Councilor Nilo "Small" Abellera Jr. and a certain "Jack."
This was an a restaurant in Davao City sometime in January 16, 2017.
Taguba at that time supposedly gave the group P 5 million in grease money to facilitate the release of his shipments at the Bureau of Customs (BOC).
Trillanes was trying to establish the connection of personalities in Davao City, reportedly called the Davao group, to Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte.
The connection of these narrations to the 604 kilos of shabu, however, has yet to be established.
Sotto told his fellow senators that the inquiry must focus on the shabu shipment and not the Davao group.
He said although these two issues are both important, the hearing should not lose its focus on the shipment that went past the green lane of BOC last May.
