THE 36-member Quezon City council has given Mayor Herbert Bautista the green light to procure 1,000 Glock pistols and 800 bullet-proof vests for the Quezon City Police District.
Under City Resolution 7120-2017 introduced by District 2 Councilor Ranulfo Ludovica, the city government shall be allowed to purchase 1,000 pieces of Glock 17 9mm Gen 4 pistols and 800 vests.
The measure will beef up police’s capability, and ensure the safety and welfare of the residents by providing their police force with the necessary support to ensure operational efficiency, Ludovica said.
City Resolution 7119 of 2017, introduced by Councilors Franz Pumaren of District 3, Godofredo Liban II of District 5, Alexis Herrera of District 1, Raquel Malañgen of District 4 and Ranulfo Ludovica of District 2, also authorized Bautista to sign a deed of donation to pave the way for the distribution of the guns and vests to the QCPD.
The city government under Bautista is fully supporting the QCPD by increasing its capability through the acquisition of patrol vehicles, modern police equipment and improvement of precinct facilities.
According to QCPD head Chief Supt. Guillermo Eleazar, the crime rate in the city dropped by 26 percent in July.
Meanwhile, the City Council also passed Resolution 7062 allowing the mayor to donate five computer sets and desktop printers to Barangay Bagbag in District 5.
“The donation of five units of computer sets aims to improve the delivery of administrative services in District V, Quezon City,” the resolution read.
